Abstract:Red sandstone is a commonly used regional road building material in the construction of highways in southern China. It has significant advantages in using local materials, but it has disadvantages such as water disintegration, strength softening, and poor water stability. Directly filling the base layer of highways can easily cause settlement, cracking, and other diseases. By using a 3% cement content to improve red sandstone, the mechanical properties of the material can be optimized through cement hydration reaction, which compensates for the engineering defects of native red sandstone. The article combines current highway construction standards and on-site engineering practices to systematically explain the mechanism, standardized construction process, and key quality control points of 3% cement modified red sandstone. Practice has shown that a cement content of 3% can balance engineering performance and economic benefits. The improved red sandstone base meets the design requirements of highways in various indicators, and the construction technology is mature and stable. It can provide technical reference for similar road construction projects in red sandstone areas.
